“Superhuman” is a campaign setting for Mutants & Masterminds, Second Edition. It is an Iron Age/Modern Age setting. Realism is key, but so is adventure, in a world where some humans have amazing powers and do the kinds of things that can be found in the superhero comics and movies of the last 20 years or so. Most of the familiar comic book genres are present, but the emphasis is on science fiction and heroic adventure. As the title of the setting implies, the main emphasis is on character, where it should be.

In 2002, people began developing amazing powers, after a luminous outer space anomaly now called the Cosmic Event. “Alphas” and “deltas” are the terms used for the two known types of superhumans. Alphas develop their abilities naturally, through genetic mutation, while a delta’s powers are induced by outside forces. The presence of superhumans has meant new threats for the world, but has also brought incredible advances in science and technology, as well as new opportunities in commerce. Previously hidden mystical forces are stirring. And perhaps even more astounding, humans have learned that they are not alone in the universe. The world is a new and exciting place. Superhumans, as a whole, have captured the world’s goodwill, but can they keep it? And what is the toll of godhood on a mortal mind?
